Detectives with the Special Victims Unit in the Bronx are actively searching for a suspect wanted for the rape of a 13-year-old girl. The alleged assault occurred on the evening of June 23, approximately at 10 p.m., in the vicinity of Van Cortlandt Park. According to law enforcement sources, the incident began when the suspect approached the victim while they were riding a northbound Bx9 bus. The bus stopped near the corner of Broadway and West 261st Street, where both individuals exited. Police report that the suspect then grabbed the girl and dragged her into a secluded wooden area within the park, where the sexual assault took place. Moments after the attack, the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment and is currently listed in stable condition. The case was reported to the 50th Precinct. The NYPD has released images of the suspect, who was seen on the bus wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt featuring a stylized letter U, gray pants, and black sneakers.
