Shawn Valn, 33, a wanted man with no fixed address, was shot and killed during a police standoff at a 7-Eleven store on Columbia Pike in Arlington, Virginia, on May 8, 2026. Valn barricaded himself inside the store after brandishing a knife and refusing to comply with officers. Police cited outstanding warrants for Assault and Obstruction of Justice, stemming from a reported incident involving a female victim. After hours of negotiation, officers breached the store’s back room, where Valn displayed a knife. Two officers fired, striking Valn, who was pronounced deceased at a hospital. Two officers were treated for injuries but released. The incident is under investigation by the Critical Incident Response Team, with a report to be forwarded to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
