Selma Police are actively searching for a suspect involved in an attempted armed robbery at a Family Dollar store located at 107 North Pollock Street in Selma, North Carolina. The incident occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026, at approximately 2:53 p.m. According to Selma Police Chief J. Vause, the suspect entered the store and approached the checkout counter with merchandise. He instructed a female cashier to remove all money from the register and place it into a satchel he was carrying. When the clerk expressed disbelief, the suspect asserted that he had a gun and threatened to harm her if she did not comply. At that moment, a second employee approached the area, and both staff members began yelling at the individual. The suspect then immediately grabbed his satchel and fled the store on foot without obtaining any money. Although the suspect claimed to possess a firearm, no weapon was actually displayed during the encounter. Fortunately, neither employee nor any customers present at the time were injured. The suspect is described as a Black male between the ages of 30 and 40, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing around 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black cap, a black shirt, tan camouflage cargo shorts, and black shoes, and was carrying a black satchel with a tan shoulder strap. Police report that he fled westbound on Anderson Street.
