Detroit police are actively investigating a serious arson incident that occurred in the Green Acres neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. Authorities are seeking a suspect who is currently at large and wanted for setting fire to an American flag displayed outside a residence. The incident took place around midnight, as reported by local sources. The flag was hung by residents John Brodersen and his wife, Daniela Braun, to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. According to the couple, they were asleep when a stranger approached their home and ignited the flag. Security camera footage captured the individual walking up to the property and setting the flag on fire. The situation escalated quickly, with flames spreading rapidly. Neighbor Steve Harmon, who had recently moved in across the street, was alerted by the sound of an air horn and a person on a bike. Upon looking out his window, Harmon saw the front of the Brodersen home lit up in orange. He immediately dialed 911 and ran across the street to warn the residents. John Brodersen eventually opened the door to find the area engulfed in flames. He managed to grab a fire extinguisher and began putting out the fire before the fire department arrived. The couple expressed shock and disbelief at the event, noting that they had lived in the neighborhood for ten years without incident. They emphasized the potential danger, stating that the fire could have destroyed the house and caused significant harm. Police and arson investigators are currently on the case.
