The Windsor, Vermont, Police Department is actively seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating a suspect responsible for a sophisticated fraud scheme that targeted an older woman in Windsor. According to officials, the incident involved a scam that unfolded over several days, culminating in the victim losing thousands of dollars. The fraudsters posed as IT specialists, contacting the victim under the guise of helping to remove a virus from her computer and protecting her accounts from potential fraud. To gain the victim's trust and cooperation, the scammers utilized official-looking government letterheads and emails. As part of the scheme, the perpetrators convinced the victim to withdraw a significant sum of money and use it to purchase gold, which the scammers claimed they would hold for her protection. The transaction took place in person on Friday, June 26, just after 4 p.m., at a location on Bavier Avenue. During this encounter, the victim handed over a large amount of gold to a fake agent. Police have released a description of the suspect, identifying him as a short Asian man dressed primarily in black clothing and wearing a black baseball cap. He was believed to be driving a black, smaller crossover vehicle with a hatchback, which was parked near the intersection of Bavier and Enright Avenue at the time of the incident. The Windsor Police Department is urging anyone who may have seen the suspect or the described vehicle, or who possesses any relevant footage, to come forward.
