The Astoria Police Department is actively searching for a suspect involved in an armed robbery that occurred at the Safeway located at 3250 Leif Erickson Drive. The incident took place on the evening of July 4, 2026, at approximately 11:11 p.m. According to police reports, a Safeway employee was approached by a white male suspect while moving money from the gas island to the main store. The suspect, described as wearing a red-and-black striped pullover, brandished a handgun and stole a small amount of cash before fleeing on foot behind the store. Authorities have not yet apprehended the individual, and the suspect remains at large. To assist with the investigation, the Astoria Police Department has released grainy surveillance images of the suspect via their Facebook page. Investigators are also seeking information regarding a woman with curly red hair who was seen wearing a yellow-and-black flannel shirt and driving a silver mid-sized four-door sedan around the time of the robbery. Police Chief Stacy Kelly confirmed that the department is currently relying on public assistance to identify the suspect and the potential witness. The Astoria Police Department is urging anyone who recognizes the suspect or the woman in the silver sedan, or who was in the area on July 4 and may have witnessed the incident, to come forward.
