A suspect remains at large following a violent shooting incident that occurred on Saturday night in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The attack took place around 10:35 p.m. at a courtyard located at 2930 West 30th Street, near the intersection with Surf Avenue. According to preliminary findings released by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a Sunday morning briefing with Mayor Zohran Mamdani, an unknown male approached the fenceline of the courtyard while a family barbecue was in progress. The suspect, described as wearing all black and a black ski mask, fired multiple rounds into the gathering before fleeing the scene on foot. The shooting resulted in eight victims, comprising four adults and four children aged six, seven, twelve, and fourteen. Among the victims, a 21-year-old woman was shot in the chest and is currently in critical condition. The remaining seven victims are reported to be in stable condition and not likely to die. Investigators recovered a TEC-9 handgun with an extended magazine and ten shell casings from the scene. Authorities stated there was no indication of a prior argument or altercation before the shooting, though they are investigating a potential link to a gang-related homicide that occurred earlier in the week on the same block. The NYPD is urging the public to come forward with any information regarding the suspect's identity or whereabouts.
