The Ocean City Police Department is actively seeking a suspect wanted in connection with an assault on an officer and disorderly conduct that occurred on the evening of July 4, 2026. The incident took place near the intersection of 120th Street and Assawoman Drive around 9:30 p.m. The suspect is described as a white male with dark-colored hair. At the time of the incident, the individual was last seen wearing a light-colored shirt featuring a graphic design on the back, dark-colored shorts, and flip-flops. Police have released images of the suspect and are urging the public to assist in their identification. This request for information comes amidst a busy Fourth of July weekend in Ocean City, which saw large crowds and several incidents requiring public safety attention. Mayor Rick Meehan recently thanked first responders and town employees for their work during the holiday, noting that while most visitors behaved responsibly, large gatherings of young adults required additional oversight. In a separate but related incident reported on the same night near N. Division Street, police made an arrest following a fight and a large crowd dispersal. Authorities clarified that despite rumors, there was no firearm-related incident in that specific case and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public from that event. However, the assault on the officer remains an active investigation.
