Groton, Connecticut โ Authorities are searching for 18-year-old Jaden Rivera, a Groton resident who remains at large after a dramatic encounter with law enforcement on Thursday. Rivera is wanted on an active arrest warrant that was issued on Tuesday, stemming from an incident that occurred in Ledyard in 2024. According to the City of Groton Police Department, officers and detectives, assisted by Ledyard police, attempted to serve the warrant at a residence on Shennecosset Road. When officers approached the home, Rivera exited the building and entered a vehicle in the parking lot. Instead of surrendering, Rivera allegedly fled in the vehicle, deliberately striking an occupied City of Groton police cruiser during the escape. Police confirmed that Rivera was in the car with another male individual, though it remains unclear who was driving. Following the collision, a massive multi-agency search was launched. Mutual aid was requested, and resources from the Connecticut State Police, Groton, Ledyard, Montville, Stonington, East Lyme, New London, and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to the scene. The suspect vehicle was eventually located at the Bayberry Lane Boat Launch, but both Rivera and the unidentified male had already fled on foot. Despite an extensive search of the area involving state troopers, K-9 teams, and drone units, neither individual was located. The vehicle was seized and impounded by the Groton Police Department. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have stated that additional criminal charges are forthcoming as the manhunt continues. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and contact authorities if they have any information regarding Rivera's whereabouts.
