The event began on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Vernier, where an undercover Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to make contact with the driver of a vehicle. The driver allegedly fired shots at the officer, prompting an immediate chase. The pursuit led law enforcement into a residential neighborhood near Peerless and Damon streets, where officers from the Harper Woods Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State Police converged to locate the suspects. While the initial suspect involved in the shooting was taken into custody later that afternoon, investigators emphasized that two additional suspects remain at large.
