Police in the Bronx are actively searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Julia Anderson, a 39-year-old woman from Mount Vernon. The incident occurred just after midnight on Tuesday in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. According to authorities, Anderson was seated in the driver’s seat of her Jeep Grand Cherokee on Murdock Avenue when shots were fired through the passenger-side window. She was struck twice in the chest and was later pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. Investigators recovered two shell casings at the scene. The gunman fled the area on a moped and remains at large. Anderson, who was one month away from her 40th birthday, had just finished a night shift working as a caregiver at a group home for developmentally disabled adults in the Bronx. She was traveling home to Mount Vernon, less than a mile away, when the attack took place. Her family has described her as a hardworking and kind individual. Her mother, Beverly Patterson, expressed her grief, noting that she usually hears her daughter arrive home at midnight but had not heard the usual noise that night. Coworkers and neighbors also shared their sorrow, remembering Anderson as a nice person who dedicated her work to helping others. Police are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or location to contact authorities immediately. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement seeks to apprehend the individual responsible for this violent crime.
