Rockford Police are actively searching for Synakhone "Sid" Pannha, a 46-year-old homeless man, in connection with the fatal shooting of Nathanael Fansler. Pannha has been charged with first-degree murder by Winnebago County prosecutors and remains at large as of July 15, 2026. The incident occurred on the early morning of July 10, 2026, when officers responded to a welfare check on the 700 block of 7th Avenue in Rockford. Upon arrival, officers discovered Fansler, 43, of Machesney Park, lying near some bushes. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Winnebago County Coroner personnel at 5:46 a.m. An autopsy subsequently confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound. Authorities have identified Pannha as the suspect and are urging the public to assist in locating him.
