The attack took place near Earl R. Carmichael Park, located at 3445 Benton Street, just west of Santa Clara High School. According to police reports, dispatchers received a call around 1:30 a.m. regarding a disturbance at the park. Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspect fleeing the scene. The man eventually jumped over a fence into a nearby condominium complex situated at the intersection of Benton Street and Pomeroy Avenue. Despite significant efforts by law enforcement to apprehend him at the scene, the suspect escaped capture and has not been located since. Investigators discovered a female victim at the location, though specific details regarding her condition have not been released out of respect for her privacy. Captain Mike Crescini, acting public information officer for the Santa Clara Police Department, emphasized that victim services and support resources are available to those affected by violent crime. The investigation is currently in its preliminary stages, and authorities have stated that releasing further details at this time could compromise the ongoing inquiry. Police are urging residents and businesses in the immediate area to review any surveillance footage captured between 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on July 13.
