The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a motorcyclist wanted in connection with a fatal chain-reaction collision on the Van Wyck Expressway. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, near Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York. The crash resulted in the death of Jonathan Santiago, a 39-year-old motorcyclist from Doran Avenue. According to police reports, Santiago was traveling northbound on a 2018 Yamaha R1 motorcycle at approximately 7:15 p.m. when he struck a 2021 Yamaha motorcycle that was stationary on an exit ramp. The operator of that stationary motorcycle, the suspect in question, fled the scene immediately after the initial impact. Following the collision, Santiago allegedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van driven by a 47-year-old man. Santiago was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained severe head trauma. He was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital by emergency medical services but was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the van remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The suspect is described as having a medium complexion, a dark full beard and mustache, and was wearing thick black sunglasses and a black half-helmet at the time of the incident. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to locate the individual who fled the scene. The NYPD is offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest and indictment. The public is urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477) or 888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish-language assistance. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Crime Stoppers website or through the @NYPDTips account on X. All calls and messages are strictly confidential. This case marks one of two traffic fatalities reported by the 107th Precinct in 2026 as of July 12, highlighting a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
