Oakland police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with two separate bank robberies that occurred within a seven-day period. The investigation centers on a man who robbed a Wells Fargo Bank branch located at 901 Franklin Street in Oakland on Wednesday morning, July 16, 2026, at approximately 9:06 a.m. According to law enforcement, the suspect entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money. The note claimed the individual possessed a firearm and threatened that the teller would be shot if they did not comply with his demands. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the suspect subsequently exited the building on foot. He was last seen in the vicinity of Franklin Street. No injuries were reported during this incident. Authorities have linked this crime to a previous robbery that took place on July 9, 2026, at a different bank in the Chinatown district of Oakland. During the earlier incident, which occurred around 9:26 a.m., the suspect allegedly grabbed an employee by the collar, threatened the victim with a knife, and demanded cash before fleeing on foot. Police believe the same individual is responsible for both crimes based on video surveillance and other investigative information. The suspect is described as a Black male in his 50s, standing approximately 6 feet tall with a medium build. He is bald and has a salt-and-pepper beard. During the Wednesday robbery, he was wearing a white baseball cap, a black jacket, a tan scarf, and dark pants.
