The Brooklyn Park Police Department is actively searching for a suspect believed to be responsible for two separate armed home invasions and sexual assaults that occurred within the past week. The incidents took place on July 17 and on a Wednesday morning in the 7500 block of Jersey Avenue North. Investigators believe the same individual committed both crimes, gaining entry into the residences, where doors were likely left unlocked, before assaulting the victims. The suspect is described as a light-skinned Black male, standing between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He has tight, medium-length dreadlocks and was seen wearing glasses, a black hoodie, and grey sweatpants. During the crimes, the suspect covered his face, previously described as wearing a balaclava or ski mask. A multi-agency taskforce, including the Brooklyn Park Police, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and federal law enforcement, has been formed to locate the individual. Police Chief Mark Bruley has urged the community to remain vigilant, lock all doors and windows, and review home surveillance footage for any suspicious activity. Residents are asked to reach out to neighbors and report any information or potential leads.
