Authorities in Jackson, Mississippi, have identified Dylan Arrington, a 22-year-old man who escaped from the Raymond Detention Center over the weekend, as the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of Anthony Watts and a subsequent carjacking. The incident occurred Monday night around 7 p.m. on Interstate 55. According to police, Watts, 61, had pulled over to assist a motorcyclist who had wrecked his vehicle. The individual Watts attempted to help, identified as Arrington, shot Watts multiple times, causing him to die at the scene, and then stole Watts' red Dodge Ram pickup truck. Arrington is one of four prisoners who escaped the Raymond Detention Center, located near Jackson, on Saturday night through breaches in a cell and the roof. Alongside Arrington, the other escapees are Casey Grayson, Corey Harrison, and Jerry Raynes. All four men were in custody for various felony charges, primarily involving theft; Arrington specifically faced charges of auto theft and illegal possession of a firearm. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones stated that the men may have camped on the roof before fleeing the facility and separating. The stolen red Dodge Ram, which features tan trim and Cowboys stickers, was last seen heading south on Interstate 55 in Terry, Mississippi. Additionally, investigators believe a stolen Chevy Silverado is connected to the escape, and a Hinds County Public Works vehicle stolen by one of the prisoners was later recovered in a suburb of Houston. As of Tuesday afternoon, none of the four escapees had been captured. The Raymond Detention Center is already under federal scrutiny due to alleged mismanagement, with a federal judge previously ordering a rare takeover after citing deficiencies in supervision and staffing that led to assaults and deaths. The Jackson Police Department is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of Arrington or the other escapees.
