Michael Paul Brown, a 45-year-old former U.S. soldier and Montana National Guard member, remains at large following a deadly shooting incident in Anaconda, Montana. Authorities are conducting an extensive manhunt for Brown, who is suspected of killing four people at the Owl Bar on August 1, 2025. The victims, identified as Daniel Edwin Baillie, 59; Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 64; David Allen Leach, 70; and Tony Wayne Palm, 74, were all residents of Anaconda. Brown, who lived next door to the bar and was considered a regular patron, allegedly used a personal rifle to commit the murders around 10:30 a.m. on the date of the incident. After the shooting, Brown fled the scene in a stolen white vehicle, abandoning a Ford F-150 pickup truck before stealing another white vehicle equipped with camping gear. He is believed to have fled into the rugged terrain of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, where he is thought to be hiding. Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies have mobilized more than 250 personnel, including helicopters, canine units, and drones with heat-detection technology, to search a 22-square-mile area of the forest. The U.S. Marshals Service has offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Brown's capture. Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen described Brown as an unstable individual who acted without reason, urging the public to remain vigilant. While investigators are not ruling out the possibility that Brown may be deceased, they are proceeding under the assumption that he is alive, armed, and dangerous.
