Authorities are conducting an extensive manhunt for Robert Card, a 40-year-old firearms instructor and Army Reserve member, following a deadly mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening around 7 p.m., resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people and left numerous others injured. Card is suspected of opening fire at two separate locations: the Schemengees Bar and Grille and the Sparetime Recreation bowling alley, located approximately four miles apart. Witnesses described a scene of chaos as shots rang out, causing patrons to flee for their lives. One survivor at the bowling alley recounted hiding in the machinery after seeing the gunman, while staff at a nearby bar locked doors and moved customers to safety. Following the attacks, Card fled into the night, prompting a massive search operation involving hundreds of law enforcement officers. Residents were urged to shelter in place as the community went into lockdown. Police have identified Card as a person of interest and circulated a bulletin detailing his description and background. Records indicate that Card was committed to a mental health facility for two weeks in the summer of 2023, during which time he reportedly reported hearing voices and making threats to shoot up a military base.
