A man from Peru is currently at large after striking an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent with a vehicle during an attempted arrest in Manahawkin, New Jersey. The incident occurred on Monday morning, approximately at 9:30 a.m., on Route 72 near Mermaid Drive. According to ICE, the suspect had received a final order of removal from an immigration judge in January and was the target of a targeted vehicle stop. As agents attempted to apprehend the individual, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, which then struck an ICE agent. Following the collision, the agent discharged his firearm at the fleeing vehicle, though it is not confirmed if the vehicle was struck by gunfire. The suspect managed to escape and has not been located. The ICE agent sustained unknown injuries, and the condition of the suspect remains unknown. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken over the investigation into the incident. Stafford Township Police confirmed they were not part of the ICE operation and are not assisting with the investigation, though they responded to the scene and secured the area.
