Wilmington police are actively searching for a person of interest in connection with the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Daniel Montano, a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. The incident occurred in downtown Wilmington on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, shortly after 2 a.m. Authorities responded to reports of a large fight involving multiple individuals. During the altercation, Montano and another man were stabbed. Montano was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the second victim has not been released. On Tuesday, the Wilmington Police Department released images of an adult Black male with a medium build, described as a person of interest in the investigation. Police have not confirmed that this individual is responsible for the stabbing but are urging the public to help identify him. The suspect is described as wearing a light-colored fleece-lined denim jacket, light-colored denim pants, a pink shirt, and white sneakers with blue and red accents. He was also seen wearing a dark blue head covering with long hair extending from underneath. Detectives are working to locate the individual depicted in the photos. The Wilmington Police Department has extended condolences to Montano’s family and loved ones. Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the stabbing to come forward.
