Burlington Police and the FBI are actively searching for an unidentified white male suspect wanted in connection with a triple shooting that left three college students wounded in Burlington, Vermont. The incident occurred on Saturday evening, approximately at 6:30 p.m., on Prospect Street near the University of Vermont campus. According to police, the three victims, all in their 20s, were walking in the front yard of a relative's home where they were visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday. The gunman, described as a white male with a beard, confronted the students without speaking and discharged at least four rounds from a handgun. All three victims were struck, with two sustaining torso injuries and one suffering lower extremity wounds. The students remain hospitalized, with two in stable condition and one in serious condition. The victims have been identified by their families as Hisham Awartani, a student at Brown University; Kinnan Abdalhamid, who attends Haverford College; and Tahseen Ahmed, enrolled at Trinity College. Two of the students are U.S. citizens and one is a legal resident. Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad stated that investigators are treating the incident as a potential hate-motivated crime, noting that two of the victims were wearing keffiyehs at the time of the attack. The FBI’s Albany field office has deployed technical and forensic resources to assist with the investigation. Mayor Miro Weinberger and Senator Bernie Sanders have condemned the violence, urging the community to stand together. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator. Authorities continue to seek the public's assistance in locating the suspect, who fled the scene on foot after the shooting.
