Authorities are actively searching for 32-year-old Thomas David Ryan, who is suspected of murdering his 70-year-old father, Robert Ryan, and setting fire to their home in Greenville, Orange County, New York. The incident occurred on the evening of August 6, 2026, when emergency crews responded to a blaze on Greenville Turnpike. Firefighters discovered Robert Ryan dead inside the structure. Thomas Ryan was last seen in the Greenville area wearing a black T-shirt and black sweatpants. He is believed to be driving a 2016 gray Toyota Prius with New York license plate HNH-7671. Police describe the suspect as armed and dangerous. Ryan has seven prior arrests in New York City and is currently on probation until April 2028. His sister, Stephanie Coiro, stated that Thomas suffers from severe mental illness, specifically schizophrenia, and had been off his medication at the time of the incident. She noted that the family had been trying to secure help for him for years but faced systemic roadblocks. Robert Ryan’s daughter described him as a pillar of the community and expressed heartbreak over the preventable tragedy. Police are urging the public not to approach the suspect if seen. Instead, individuals are asked to call 911 immediately or contact the State Police Middletown Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300 with any information regarding his whereabouts.
