The incident occurred on the evening of July 30, approximately at 6 p.m., in the Derby Lane area of Calhoun. According to Lt. Col. K.J. Carson, officers responded to reports of shots fired but arrived after all parties had departed the scene. The investigation proceeded through contact with the victim, who returned to assist law enforcement. The victim, who engages in online sales, reported that he had arranged a transaction with a supplier identified as Escutia-Cruz. While the victim noted that previous transactions with this individual had been incident-free, he stated that during this meeting, the suspect acted suspiciously. After money was exchanged, the victim alleges that Escutia-Cruz pulled a handgun and robbed him at gunpoint. Police confirmed that an exchange of gunfire ensued between the two individuals, though neither party was struck by bullets. Authorities have secured warrants for Escutia-Cruz, charging him with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Conduct, and additional offenses. Investigators have stated that attempts to locate the suspect have been unsuccessful and believe he has fled the area. Despite the violent nature of the crime, police emphasized that there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the general public.
