The New Orleans Police Department is actively searching for a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in the city. The incident took place during the pre-dawn hours of Thursday, July 23, 2026. According to police reports, the victim was walking along Elysian Fields Avenue near Marais Street shortly after 3 a.m. when the suspect approached on a bicycle. Security video captures the man grabbing the woman's purse before a group of bystanders attempted to intervene. The confrontation escalated when the suspect aimed a firearm at the group, causing them to retreat. The robber then mounted his bicycle and fled the scene. Police have released a description of the perpetrator, identifying him as a Black male, approximately 25 to 35 years old. He is described as standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build, a dark complexion, and short braids or twists. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a transparent orange rain poncho over a black shirt. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or location to come forward. Investigators from the NOPD Fifth District are leading the inquiry.
