Three days earlier, on July 27, a second postal worker was attacked near the rear entrance of the Estudillo Station Post Office at 1319 Washington Avenue in San Leandro. Around 3 p.m., a stranger approached the employee from behind and sucker-punched her in the face before fleeing the scene. The US Postal Inspection Service has released images of a person of interest in this assault and explicitly warned the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend the suspect. Authorities emphasize that these crimes are not politically motivated but are driven by criminals targeting physical items that provide access to high-value mail. California has been identified as one of the states hardest hit by such attacks on postal workers.
