Officers responded to reports of gunfire just before 10:30 p.m. and discovered McDonald suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds while sitting on the front steps of a residence. Emergency responders from the Kansas City Fire Department provided immediate life-saving measures at the scene before transporting McDonald to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Homicide detectives and crime scene technicians have remained at the location overnight to conduct a thorough investigation.
