Kadafi Fleming, 19, remains at large and is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service in connection with multiple serious criminal offenses. Fleming is already wanted on robbery charges related to the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Penn State student Billy Schmidt. The incident involving Schmidt occurred on Saturday, June 6, in the 1900 block of Durfor Street in Philadelphia. Surveillance footage shows Schmidt confronting a suspect over a stolen phone before another individual, identified as a person of interest, shot him in the chest. Schmidt, a digital journalism student from Philadelphia, was returning home from a local bar after watching the NBA Finals with friends when the fatal attack took place. While two other individuals wanted in connection with Schmidt’s murder, including Fleming’s younger brother Azzubair Outen-Fleming, 16, and Kaiseem Smith, 16, have been apprehended, Kadafi Fleming has not been captured. Authorities have now added a new charge to the warrant, alleging that Fleming is a person of interest in an attempted carjacking and aggravated assault involving an off-duty Philadelphia police officer. This incident occurred on Monday, August 10, in the 2900 block of South 70th Street. According to reports, suspects broke into an off-duty officer’s Dodge Charger, pushed it around the block, and attempted to start the vehicle. The officer encountered the suspects and fired shots, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Fleming and other suspects fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, unsuccessful in their attempt to steal the police car. Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark emphasized the danger posed by Fleming, noting his significant criminal history involving firearms and stolen vehicles.
