The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has issued two criminal complaint warrants for the arrest of James Davis-Scott Gurley, a suspect currently at large in connection with a series of burglaries and thefts across Kentucky. Gurley, who is believed to be from Nancy, Kentucky, is wanted for multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from incidents that occurred in early 2026. The investigation began after Deputy Zachary Bybee responded to a burglary report at the Cumberland Green Valero Convenient Store. Due to scheduling conflicts, the case was transferred to Deputy James Barnett, who coordinated with Detective Larry Patterson of the Somerset Police Department to review video footage from various locations. Evidence gathered from the Cumberland Green Valero, the Belk’s Department Store in Somerset, and a Monticello Walmart Store linked the same individual to all crimes. Video footage from February 12, 2026, showed the suspect shoplifting at Walmart using a specific vehicle, which was later located at a relative’s residence in the Nancy community. Although Gurley was not present at the time, additional evidence was secured. The first warrant lists charges including two counts of third-degree burglary, felony theft by unlawful taking, first-degree criminal mischief, and possession of burglary tools related to the Cumberland Green Valero incident. The second warrant addresses a shoplifting charge at the Walmart. Authorities are actively seeking the public's assistance in locating Gurley. A photograph of the suspect, highlighting an arm tattoo, has been released.
