Federal investigators, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), have joined local authorities in the ongoing manhunt for the individual or individuals responsible for the Chelan Hills Fire. The blaze, which ignited on the night of July 4 in Western Douglas County, Washington, resulted in the death of one person and the destruction of more than 100 structures across over 10,000 acres. The victim, believed to be attempting to evacuate, was found deceased inside a vehicle in McNeill Canyon, an area heavily impacted by the fire. While the exact cause remains under investigation, Douglas County Sheriff Tyler Caille stated that the fire was almost certainly human-caused. Rumors have circulated on social media suggesting that individuals seen discharging fireworks from a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 97 may be responsible, but no suspects have been formally identified or arrested. To aid in the apprehension of those responsible, the ATF has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and prosecution. This federal incentive is in addition to a $25,000 reward previously offered by Douglas County, bringing the total reward money available to $30,000. The investigation is currently active, with law enforcement urging the public to come forward with any relevant information.
