When directly asked by Councilmember Rob Saka if a killer is still on the loose, Chief Sayles declined to give a definitive yes or no, stating that detectives are actively examining surveillance video and processing warrants. He noted that while there is no active shooter situation, the possibility of a suspect remaining at large exists. Councilmembers expressed significant frustration over a five-hour delay in providing the public with accurate information on the night of the shooting. Public Safety Director Alison Holcomb faced questions from Councilmember Debora Juarez regarding the gap between the incident and official updates. Holcomb characterized the timing debate as political, while Juarez insisted it was a factual matter requiring immediate transparency. Councilmember Dan Strauss highlighted that officials knew the situation was not an active shooter scenario shortly after 7 p.m., yet the public remained uninformed. The hearing also revealed that key figures present at the scene, including Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis and Detective Brian Pritchard, were absent from the committee meeting. Mayor Katie Wilson indicated that the city's overall response is under review by the Office of the Inspector General, but Councilmember Bob Kettle emphasized the council's intent to secure answers sooner.
