Authorities in Petersburg, Virginia, are actively searching for multiple suspects following a mass shooting that occurred on the early morning of Saturday, August 15, 2026. The incident took place outside the residence halls of Virginia State University, a historically Black college located in the Petersburg area. According to university officials, law enforcement officers responded to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street at approximately 1:28 AM after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. As of the latest reports, four of the victims are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, while one individual remains in critical condition. Police have confirmed that at least one of the victims is a student at Virginia State University, who has since been released from the hospital, and another victim is a minor.
