Authorities in Muscatine, Iowa, are searching for Mark Lee Jackson, a 59-year-old man who remains at large after allegedly shooting a Muscatine County sheriff’s deputy. The incident began around 5:12 p.m. on Friday when officers attempted to pull over Jackson’s vehicle for reckless driving near Benham Avenue and Nebraska Street. Jackson failed to stop, leading police on a high-speed chase through residential neighborhoods before crashing his vehicle. He fled on foot and was located approximately fifteen minutes later in the 1200 block of Grandview Avenue. During the ensuing foot chase, Jackson fired at responding officers, striking one. As of Sunday morning, Jackson had not been taken into custody. He is described as approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds, with blue eyes and thinning gray hair. Police have classified him as armed and dangerous. Jackson has active warrants for a parole violation through the Iowa State Corrections and a second-degree theft case through the Muscatine Police Department. Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to his arrest. Residents are urged not to approach Jackson but to call 911 immediately if he is seen.
