The Smyrna Police Department is actively searching for Freddrick Hammonds, the alleged suspect in a violent road rage incident that occurred on June 27. Authorities announced on Friday, August 14, that they have identified Hammonds and issued an arrest warrant for one count of felony aggravated battery. The incident, which was captured on video, began when the victim, a man in his 50s, noticed another vehicle following him as he turned off a main roadway. The suspect followed the victim to his apartment complex, where the two exchanged words before Hammonds threw the first punch. During the altercation, Hammonds allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and struck the victim three to four times with the weapon. The victim was subsequently hospitalized with significant injuries. Police have also identified 18-year-old Hayle Kirkpatrick as the driver of the suspect's vehicle. Kirkpatrick has been charged with obstructing an investigation, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest. As of the latest update, law enforcement has no information regarding Hammonds' current whereabouts, and no photograph of him has been released. Lt. Meredith Holt of the Smyrna Police Department noted that road rage incidents have become increasingly violent and frequent in recent years.
