South Carolina authorities are actively searching for a second suspect following the fatal shooting of a high school student near a bus stop in Gaffney. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Jomiltron Sentell Fair Jr., a senior at Gaffney High School. He was shot on Wednesday near the 500 block of West Rutledge Avenue. Police have already charged 17-year-old Reginald Louis Barnes Jr. with murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Barnes was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center, and a bond hearing was scheduled for Thursday afternoon, though cameras were prohibited from the courtroom by judicial order. Authorities continue to seek 18-year-old Keveon Ken’Dre Covington, who is wanted on identical murder and weapon possession charges. Police have described Covington as armed and dangerous, urging the public not to approach him under any circumstances but to call 911 immediately if he is spotted. The investigation is being supported by multiple agencies, including the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, South Carolina State Transport Police, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Gaffney Police Chief Gerald Knight emphasized the tragedy of the loss, stating that a young man’s life was cut short and stressing the importance of community cooperation.
