Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies has confirmed that Mark Lee Jackson remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous following a shooting incident that occurred on Friday. Jackson is wanted on multiple warrants, including charges of attempted murder involving both a Muscatine County sheriff's deputy and a Muscatine police officer. The incident began around 5:12 p.m. on Friday when officers attempted to arrest Jackson. During the encounter, Jackson fired a weapon toward an officer while fleeing the scene. Although a Muscatine police officer was shot during the exchange, Chief Kies reported that the victim is expected to make a full recovery. Authorities also noted that Jackson fired toward an area where bystanders and children were present, expressing relief that no civilians were injured. In response to the threat, a massive manhunt has been launched, involving more than 100 law enforcement officers from 16 different agencies. The search effort includes five tactical teams, three drone teams, an aviation unit, five K-9 teams, and an Iowa search-and-rescue K-9 team deployed to Jackson's last known location. A perimeter covering approximately 120 acres was established after Jackson fled the initial scene. As of Sunday, Jackson remains at large, and Chief Kies warned the public that they cannot guarantee safety in the area, urging residents to remain vigilant. Authorities are asking anyone who sees Jackson or has information regarding his whereabouts to contact law enforcement immediately.
