The Lapeer Police Department is actively seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating an unidentified suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated assault that occurred on Friday evening, August 14, 2026. The incident took place at approximately 8 p.m. at Rowden Park, located across from McLaren Lapeer Region. According to Chief Jeremy Howe, officers responded to the scene where they made contact with a 23-year-old male victim who reported being stabbed in the abdomen. The victim was transported to McLaren Lapeer Region for surgery and is expected to survive his injuries. The motive for the attack remains unknown, and detectives are currently pursuing various investigative leads. Chief Howe emphasized that the safety of citizens is the department's top priority, noting that the Lapeer Police Department has recently responded to several incidents within city parks. In response to these concerns, additional patrols and investigative resources are being directed toward these incidents. This stabbing follows a pattern of dangerous activities in local parks, including the discovery of over 40 hidden fence spikes in February 2026 at Cramton Park and Rotary Park, sharp caltrops found near park slides in April 2025, and a 2018 incident where children suffered chemical burns from sodium hydroxide left on a playground slide. As a result of previous incidents, the City of Lapeer has increased security camera surveillance and added lighting at several parks. Anyone with information regarding the Friday night assault is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Jeff Jones or Detective Jesse McKelvie at 810-664-0833. The County Press plans to provide additional reporting on this incident in its edition on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
