Law enforcement officials in Muscatine, Iowa, are continuing their search for 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson, who is wanted in connection with the shooting of a police officer. The incident occurred on Friday when officers attempted to apprehend Jackson in his vehicle. During the pursuit, Jackson crashed his car and fled on foot, at which point he fired a weapon toward the officers attempting to take him into custody. Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies confirmed that while the suspect discharged his firearm in an area where bystanders and children were present, no civilians or children were injured. The injured officer has since been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. The investigation has mobilized a significant response, with more than 100 law enforcement officers from 16 different agencies participating in the search efforts. Resources utilized during the manhunt have included drones, an aviation unit, and canine teams. Authorities emphasize that Jackson remains at large and pose a potential danger.
