Muscatine, Iowa authorities are actively searching for 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson, who is currently at large and wanted in connection with a violent incident involving law enforcement. Jackson is accused of shooting a Muscatine police officer during a high-speed chase that occurred on Friday. According to court documents and deputy reports, the pursuit began when a Muscatine County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Jackson’s vehicle near the intersection of Benham Avenue and Nebraska Street. Jackson failed to comply and continued driving erratically, eventually driving off the road, traversing a bike path, crashing through a fence, and striking a garage before the shooting took place. During the chaotic pursuit, a female passenger exited the vehicle and later identified Jackson as the shooter. The incident resulted in the officer sustaining an injury to the elbow area. Jackson’s vehicle was subsequently discovered parked in a tree line behind 46 Gas Lantern Square, adjacent to the railroad tracks. In addition to the shooting allegation, Jackson faces multiple charges related to the vehicle pursuit, including excessive speed, reckless driving, and failure to obey traffic control devices. He also has a history of prior convictions for felony eluding and speeding. Furthermore, officials have confirmed that Jackson has active warrants pending through the Iowa State Corrections Department for a parole violation and through the Muscatine Police Department for a second-degree theft case. Law enforcement agencies, including the Muscatine Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, are urging the public to remain vigilant.
