According to police reports, the incident began just after 1:00 a.m. when an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the intersection of First and Eddy Streets. Officers observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and running through a stop sign. Due to safety concerns regarding the driver's behavior, the officer discontinued the stop. A case was subsequently opened for willful reckless driving, stop sign violation, traffic signal violation, speeding, and flight to avoid arrest.
