Philadelphia police have released images of a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old off-duty Officer Alhassane Barry. The incident occurred early Sunday morning in Southwest Philadelphia, specifically in the area of the 7200 block of Elmwood Avenue near the intersection with 73rd Street and Buist Avenue. According to investigators, Barry and a second victim were shot just before 4 a.m. outside an after-hours lounge. Surveillance video captures the suspect arguing with the victims inside the establishment before the altercation moved outdoors, where shots were fired. Barry was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital but succumbed to his injuries, while the second victim remains in stable condition. Police recovered a handgun and spent shell casings at the scene. The suspect, described as a male, was seen fleeing southbound on 73rd Street on foot after the shooting. The lounge where the incident took place has faced previous zoning violations and is currently closed. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel emphasized that a full investigation is underway to determine the motive and circumstances leading to the shooting. Barry, a soldier in the military and an officer in the 12th District, was remembered by family and colleagues as a generous and friendly individual who served his community. A funeral was held on Monday for the fallen officer. Authorities are urging the public to assist in locating the suspect. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Individuals with information are asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS.
