Newark police are actively seeking a suspect responsible for an assault that occurred inside an apartment building lobby. The incident took place on August 1 at approximately 9:45 p.m. at a residence located on Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard. According to authorities, the suspect, described as a male visitor, was seen in surveillance video interacting with the building's concierge, an engineer, and a security guard. When the concierge questioned the man's presence, the suspect became aggressive. He first grabbed a paper bag from the counter, prompting the concierge to attempt to retrieve it. In response, the suspect threw a small flower pot from the counter, which struck the concierge in the face and shattered on the floor. He then threw a second item and a third item that appeared to pass over the concierge's head before fleeing the scene. The attack resulted in the concierge suffering a cut to his chin and a broken tooth. He received medical treatment at University Hospital. Police have not yet identified the suspect by name or provided a detailed physical description beyond his attire at the time of the incident, which included a tank top, a dark-colored baseball cap, and a backpack. Investigators are urging the public to review the released security footage and come forward with any information that could help identify the man.
