Savannah Police are actively searching for two suspects at large following a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, near Georgia Southern University. The altercation took place around 2:46 p.m. at the intersection of Largo Drive and Windsor Road, resulting in serious injuries to a 19-year-old male victim. According to Alderman Kurtis Purtee, the victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries after officers arrived on the scene. The incident reportedly began as an altercation between two groups before the shooting occurred. Georgia Southern University issued an immediate shelter-in-place order for students, which was lifted by approximately 4:00 p.m. The Savannah-Chatham County School District confirmed that the lockdown affected only students participating in afterschool activities. The two suspects remain unidentified and are not in custody. One suspect is described as a man wearing a white tank top, while the other is described as wearing a white t-shirt and khaki pants. Authorities last spotted the suspects in the vicinity of the Joseph Landings Apartment Complex, located at 12350 Mercy Blvd. The direction of travel for the suspects is currently unknown. A significant law enforcement presence, including the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, and Savannah-Chatham County Public School Board of Education Police, has been deployed to the area. Police have cordoned off the scene with tape and are urging the public to avoid the area. Investigators are actively seeking tips from the community to locate the suspects and bring them to justice.
