Authorities in Arizona are conducting an active manhunt for two suspects following the fatal shooting of a Tucson Police Department recruit. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026, at a residence located on South Enchanted Spring Drive in Tucson. Carlos Ramirez, a 23-year-old former Pima County corrections officer and current police recruit, was found dead inside the home shortly before 6 a.m. His fiancée, also 23 years old and a current corrections officer, sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where she is reported to be in stable condition. The couple shares a young child. Investigators from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, are searching for two Hispanic men described as wearing black clothing and ski masks. Law enforcement is also seeking information regarding a gray SUV, believed to be a 2007 to 2013 Acura MDX, which may have a missing fuel door and was allegedly used in the crime. Tucson Police Chief Monica Prieto and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos addressed the media, describing the event as a tragic loss for the community. Family members of the victims are also employed by the Department of Public Safety. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspects or the vehicle to contact law enforcement immediately by calling 911. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects remain at large.
