Philadelphia police have identified 22-year-old Zymire Hughes as the suspect wanted in connection with a series of threatening incidents that occurred near City Hall last week. Hughes is currently at large, and authorities believe he may have fled Pennsylvania, with reported ties to California and Nevada. The investigation centers on events that took place early in the morning on August 12, around 5 a.m., in the vicinity of 15th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard. According to police reports, Hughes approached multiple individuals while wearing a mask described as resembling the character Chucky. Surveillance footage captured the suspect engaging in erratic behavior, including chasing a woman down the street and continuing the pursuit after she changed direction. In one specific encounter, Hughes approached a woman, holding his cell phone in his left hand and keeping his right hand behind his back, while asking her if she was 'ready to die.' Police stated there is no evidence that Hughes was armed, but his actions were deemed highly threatening. Prior to the assaults, Hughes was seen entering a Dunkin Donuts in the 1500 block of Chestnut Street but was refused service due to his mask and exited after displaying erratic behavior. Over a period of 15 to 16 minutes, cameras recorded him running up to people at various locations, including 15th Street and South Penn Square, 15th and Market Street, and outside Dilworth Plaza. Police noted that Hughes filmed himself with his cell phone during these incidents. An active arrest warrant has been issued for Hughes, who faces felony charges including terroristic threats, harassment, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and intimidation. Investigators have expressed belief that the incidents may be linked to a social media trend, though the motive remains unknown. The number of victims has not been fully disclosed.
