Kentucky State Police are actively searching for Luis Gonzalez Perez, a 34-year-old tow truck operator from Louisville, in connection with a fatal traffic collision that occurred late Friday night. The incident took place on Interstate 65 in Bullitt County, near mile marker 112, just before midnight. According to law enforcement, Perez was operating a wrecker that had been attached to a bobtail tractor parked on the shoulder. The tractor was facing northbound, while the wrecker was positioned southbound to transport it. Perez attempted to execute a U-turn across all three northbound lanes of the interstate to travel in the northbound direction. During this maneuver, his wrecker was struck by a 2007 Ford Focus driven by Shawn Franklin, 43, of North Carolina. Franklin was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital with severe injuries but later succumbed to his wounds, as announced by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. Perez, who was not injured in the crash, fled the scene immediately following the collision. Troopers and crash reconstructionists were dispatched to the scene, where preliminary investigations revealed the circumstances of the hit-and-run. Charges are currently pending against Perez as law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to locate him.
