Authorities in Arizona are seeking the public's assistance in locating Alex James Barnett, 33, who is wanted in connection with the first-degree murder of Carlos Ramirez, a 23-year-old police recruit and former corrections officer. The incident occurred on a Wednesday morning at approximately 6 a.m. in the Star Valley neighborhood of Tucson, located on the city's far southwest side. Ramirez was fatally shot inside the home he shared with his fiancée, who is also a Pima County corrections officer. The fiancée was shot and wounded during the attack, and their child was present in the residence at the time. Additionally, two other unidentified individuals are believed to have been involved in the crime and are also being sought by law enforcement. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has issued a first-degree murder warrant for Barnett. Investigators have released surveillance footage from a Shell gas station near Casino del Sol showing Barnett and an unidentified suspect around 5:20 a.m. on the day of the shooting. A second video captures an unidentified suspect exiting a vehicle near South Palo Verde Road and East 33rd Street around 10:50 a.m. The alleged getaway vehicle, a gray Acura MDX SUV, was discovered in a parking lot near South Palo Verde Road and East 33rd Street on Thursday. No motive for the shooting has been established. The Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Barnett or the other suspects to contact them. The case remains active as authorities continue their investigation into the fatal shooting of the Tucson police recruit.
