Philadelphia police have identified 22-year-old Zymire Hughes as the suspect wanted in connection with a series of terrifying incidents involving a Chucky-style doll mask. Hughes is accused of harassing, chasing, and threatening multiple individuals in Center City Philadelphia during the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 12. The alleged crimes include aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, and possession of an instrument of crime. Investigators state that Hughes wore a doll mask and a black face covering while filming his actions on a cellphone, allegedly seeking to create social media content. During the incident, Hughes approached a man in a pleading motion and harassed approximately 15 other people. Most notably, he chased a female jogger on 15th Street, repeatedly asking her, "Are you ready to die?" The woman fled in panic, sustaining injuries to her right hamstring and spine. Hughes was briefly spotted by SEPTA police officers at Suburban Station but managed to evade capture and return to his apartment on 23rd and Venango streets. Authorities believe Hughes fled Pennsylvania on Tuesday, August 18, with ties to California and Nevada, specifically the Los Angeles and Las Angeles areas. Hughes was on probation for a prior crime in Montgomery County at the time of the incident, and his apprehension could result in a probation violation detainer. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has condemned Hughes's actions, urging the public to assist in the manhunt.
