Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, in partnership with law enforcement agencies, has announced new developments regarding the active manhunt for Zymire Hughes, a suspect currently at large and wanted for a series of violent incidents in Center City. Hughes, born November 27, 2003, is accused of terrorizing individuals while wearing a Halloween-style mask. Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Hughes, who is expected to face multiple serious charges, including Aggravated Assault as a felony, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault, and Reckless Endangerment of Another Person. The announcement highlights a specific incident that occurred in the early morning of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, near Dilworth Park at the intersection of JFK Boulevard and 15th Street. During this event, Hughes approached a victim while wearing a mask with his arm behind his back and asked, “Are you ready to die?” The victim attempted to flee, prompting Hughes to chase her. During the pursuit, the complainant sustained injuries to her right hamstring and spine. This assault is described as one of many reported incidents involving Hughes over the past month. District Attorney Krasner emphasized the severity of these crimes, stating that terrorizing and harassing individuals in any neighborhood will not be tolerated and that Hughes will be held accountable. The investigation remains ongoing and active.
