Authorities in Tucson, Arizona, have released new surveillance images and details regarding Alex James Barnett, the identified suspect in the fatal shooting of Tucson Police Cadet Carlos Ramirez. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, resulting in the death of Cadet Ramirez and injuring his fiancée, who works as a corrections officer. Police report that three suspects, all wearing masks and black clothing, were involved in the double shooting. Barnett, 33, is currently at large and is described as having gray hair, wearing a goggle band on his glasses, and sporting a watch or bracelet on his left wrist. He is believed to be wearing light wash or gray jeans and either red and white or orange and white Nike shoes. Investigators have also released video of a gray SUV linked to the crime, which was seen near the murder scene and later abandoned near 33rd and South Palo Verde. A new photo released by the Pima County Sheriff's Department on Friday night appears to show Barnett parking the vehicle. Reports indicate Barnett may be traveling on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. A review of Barnett’s background reveals a significant criminal history spanning approximately 16 years, including multiple felonies and misdemeanors such as car theft, burglary, identity theft, forgery, drug offenses, weapons violations, aggravated assault, and child abuse. He has previously served time in Pima County Jail and Arizona state prisons, with sentences ranging from six months to two and a half years. The Pima County Sheriff's Department is urging the public to avoid contact with Barnett and to call 911 immediately if he is spotted. Investigators continue to seek the other two suspects involved in the shooting.
